PLEASANT PRAIRIE — Quick, efficient work by Pleasant Prairie Fire & Rescue Department personnel Friday afternoon netted a happy ending for a would-be ice fisherman who broke through a thinly frozen subdivision pond.

It was 8:30 in the morning and the sign on the bank said 44 degrees, but Mike Bukantis of Bristol was going ice fishing.
All the leaves are gone. The temperature is a biting 25 degrees with wind chill.
Heat and humidity could make Sunday a steamy repeat of last week.
Friday morning’s rain was a relief for area residents after five straight days of 90-degree temperatures.
Kenosha County residents appear to be keeping their cool despite recent warm weather.

We’ve suffered through a chilly spring, horrible summer storms, and now we’re heading into a hot and humid stretch that will last for days. The weekend forecast has us in the 80s, then the Kenosha area will probably see the low 90s on Monday, Tuesday and maybe Wednesday.

The blizzard that began to blast the Kenosha area Tuesday evening, closing schools and businesses today, led Gov. Scott Walker to declare a state of emergency and activate the National Guard across southern Wisconsin.
