Wilmot soccer conquers rival
The Wilmot soccer team won its second Southern Lakes Conference match in a row with a 3-1 victory over rival Central on Thursday at Silver Lake Park.
The Panthers scored three unanswered goals after Central found the back of the net just 17 seconds into the match. Falcon Spencer McCoy scored on an assist from Peter Anderson.
“We basically took the ball from Wilmot and moved it down the field and put it right in,” Central coach Jeremy Williams said.
“It was probably the quickest goal in Central history.”
Wilmot came right back with goals from Jose Mendez and Andre Cuevas in building a 2-1 halftime lead. Austin Ahler then added an insurance goal in the second half on an assist from Jeremy Betz.
Wilmot goalkeeper Brandon Jones denied a number of Falcon scoring opportunities, according to Williams.

Wilmot sweeps CLS in v-ball
Paige Madsen had 12 kills and eight digs as Wilmot swept a non-conference match from visiting Christian Life, 25-20, 25-17, 26-24.
“We kind of relaxed a little bit in the third game, but we pulled it out,” Wilmot co-coach Hannah Smits said.
Stephanie Solger had 24 assists and was 10-of-10 serving for the Panthers.
Other leaders for Wilmot were Jordan Venem (six kills, six blocks), Lauren Murdock (five kills, nine digs, 9-of-9 serving) and Jessica Schatzka (17 digs).
Christian Life’s leaders were Devyn Bedford (17-of-17 serving) and April Crangle (21 digs).
“We definitely played the worst game of our season tonight,” CLS coach Heidi Tennyson said.
Red Devils v-ball falls
Franklin edged visiting Bradford 25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 25-22 in Southeast Conference action.
“This is a match we could have won,” Bradford coach Kyle Yackley said. “We’re getting chances. We lost close games in Games 1, 3 and 4 and we dominated Game 2.
“We’re having trouble closing teams out. It’s not so much other teams are making a play, it’s just that we’re not making a play. We’re so close to turning that corner and taking that next step as a team.”
Loryn Potter led Bradford (17-18, 1-5 SEC) with nine kills, while Morgen Mueller chipped in eight kills. Brittany Reindl directed the offense with 24 assists, and Sara Hessefort added eight aces. Amanda Beggi (20 digs) led the defense.
