Third-seeded Bradford takes care of Central, 6-1
Bradford jumped to a 6-0 lead en route to a 6-1 win over Central in a Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division-1 regional semifinal Tuesday at Ameche Field.
The third-seeded Red Devils improved to 13-9-1 and will play Elkhorn 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Ameche Field for a regional title.
“I think we did what we needed to do,” Bradford coach Matt Kellner said. “We moved the ball and created a lot of shooting opportunities.”
The Red Devils got two goals from Esaie Lira and once each from Kiko Delgado, Cesar Gutierrez, Rigo Escamilla and Aco Minic in outshooting 14th-seeded Central 15-3. Gutierrez was credited with two assists while Landon Luzar, Vigan Zeqiri and John Stevens each had one.
Central (5-15-3) got its goal on a late penalty kick by Peter Andersen.
“It’s not the way we wanted to end our season,” said Central coach Jeremy Williams, whose team finished 6-14-3. “We felt like we got a raw deal in the regional seeding. When coaches don’t either take the time or respect your team in the way they vote, it carries over into the seeding.”
CLS beats St. Joseph
Jared Ventura had two goals and an assist as host Christian Life blanked St. Joseph, 4-0, in a Division-3 regional semifinal.
Ventura scored twice in a span of three minutes. The senior captain scored in the 31st minute on a direct kick and gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead on a penalty kick in the 34th minute.
“He’s our playmaker in the middle,” Christian Life coach Alan Krass said. “He is very good at making people dangerous with the ball early and getting himself in position with his speed to put pressure on the defense. He really stepped it up.”
Nick Svehla scored unassisted in the 61st minute and Kyle Veman found the back of the net in the 75th minute on an assist from Ventura.
“We started the game out a little shaky, but as the game went on we got our edge back,” Krass said. “We finished real strong.”
The Eagles (18-6-1) play at top-seed Racine St. Catherine’s on Thursday.
Shoreland cruises
Ryan Lemke and Erik White each scored a pair of goals as Shoreland shut out Greendale Martin Luther, 5-0, in a Division-3 regional semifinal in Somers.
The Pacers (16-5-4) took a 2-0 lead just seven minutes into the match when Lemke scored in the sixth minute and White followed with a goal just one minute later.
“We really came out with a purpose,” Shoreland coach Dan Hahm said. “We were very imaginative and played with a very excited mentality all over the field.”
Shoreland scored three goals in the second half. Lemke found the back of the net in the 63rd minute, White scored in the 67th minute and Joel Lazzaroni closed out the scoring in the 77th minute on an assist from Dan White.
Lemke, Erik White and Trent Schwartz each had an assist.
The Pacers outshot Martin Luther, 13-2.
