March Madness ramps up as high school girls basketball teams start WIAA regional play tonight. The boys got under way last Tuesday.

There are six girls games involving Kenosha County schools on tap for tonight. Bradford, Tremper, Central and Wilmot play in Division-1 regionals while St. Joseph and Christian Life are in Division-3 action. Here are capsule summaries for Bradford and Central. Summaries for Tremper, Wilmot, St. Joseph and Christian Life are on page C3.

Shoreland Lutheran has tonight off after receiving a first-round bye. A look at Shoreland’s game will appear in Thursday’s News.

Central (13-9) vs. Badger (5-17)

When: 7 tonight

Where: Paddock Lake

Level: WIAA Division-1 regional semifinal

At stake: The winner will play the Bradford-Elkhorn winner in the regional final on Saturday at a site and time to be determined.

Players to watch: Badger sophomore Gina Ambrose and Central junior Faith Lois were among the top scorers in the Southern Lakes Conference. On the season, Ambrose is averaging 16.4 points with 51 3-pointers, while Lois is averaging 16.1 points with 25 3-pointers.

FYI: Central is seeded fourth in its 14-team sectional, while Badger is seeded 13th. ... Central finished 6-8 in the SLC and Badger tied Burlington for last place at 3-11. ... Central won both regular-season meetings, 50-41 on Jan. 5 in Paddock Lake and 50-37 on Feb. 18 in Lake Geneva. Central sophomore Abbie Reeves averaged 16.5 points in the two games. ... The Falcons started the season 5-0 and closed out the season by winning five of the last seven. ... The Badgers have a pair of five-game losing streaks this season.

Bradford (10-11) vs. Elkhorn (8-14)

When: 7 tonight

Where: Bradford Fieldhouse

Level: WIAA Division-1 regional semifinal

At stake: The winner will play the Central-Badger winner in the regional final on Saturday at a site and time to be determined.

Player to watch: Marquette recruit Katie Young leads the Red Devils in scoring at 17.8 points per game. The senior guard-forward has scored 20 points or more 12 times, including four times in her last five games. As a varsity player, Young has scored 794 points.

FYI: Bradford is seeded fifth in its 14-team sectional, while Elkhorn is seeded 12th. ... The teams played a non-conference game on Jan. 23 and the host Elks prevailed, 61-50. Rachael Wenberg led Bradford with 16 points. Senior guard Katherine Neshek scored a game-high 17 points for Elkhorn. ... Bradford finished 7-7 in the Southeast Conference. ... Elkhorn went 4-10 in the Southern Lakes Conference. ... Elkhorn beat Badger in the regular-season finale to snap a seven-game skid. ... Bradford had won five of six before losing to Racine Case in its regular-season finale.

Tremper (9-13) vs. Janesville Craig (8-14)

When: 7 tonight

Where: Janesville Craig (401 S. Randall Ave.)

Level: WIAA Division-1 regional semifinal

At stake: The winner will play at top-seeded Verona in the regional final 1 p.m. Saturday.

Player to watch: Tremper senior Rachel Jones missed nine games earlier this season because of a foot injury, but she has come back strong, averaging 14.3 points in her last nine games.

FYI: Tremper is seeded eighth in its 14-team sectional, while Janesville Craig is seeded ninth. ... Tremper played at Janesville Craig in last year’s regional semifinal and suffered a 42-33 loss. Jones scored 18 points for the Trojans. ... Tremper finished 4-10 in the Southeast Conference. ... Janesville Craig went 7-11 in the Big Eight Conference. ... After winning 15 games in three consecutive seasons, the Cougars slipped this season. ... Tremper senior forward Alix Stangas has missed the last eight games after suffering a knee injury on Jan. 22 at Bradford. ... Craig defeated Beloit Memorial in the regular-season finale to snap a seven-game losing streak.

Wilmot (7-15) vs. Beloit Memorial (9-13)

When: 7 tonight

Where: Beloit Memorial (1225 Fourth St.)

Level: WIAA Division-1 regional semifinal

At stake: The winner will play the Milton-Burlington winner in the regional final on Saturday at a site and time to be determined.

Player to watch: Eastern Illinois recruit Jackie Herman leads the Panthers in scoring at 18.5 points per game. The senior guard-forward has scored 20 points or more 11 times, including 31 points or more three times. As a varsity player, Herman has scored 926 points.

FYI: Wilmot is seeded 11th in its 14-team sectional, while Beloit is seeded sixth. ... Wilmot finished 5-9 in the Southern Lakes Conference. ... Beloit went 7-11 in the Big Eight Conference. ... Beloit senior guard Megan Slavish is averaging a team-best 14.6 points per game. ... Other than Herman, no Wilmot player averages more than five points per game. ... Wilmot hasn’t won a postseason game since 2006. ... The Purple Knights, who finished 1-20 last season, have their most victories since the 2006-07 season.

St. Joseph (8-14) vs. Racine Prairie (9-13)

When: 7 tonight

Where: Racine Prairie (4050 Lighthouse Dr.)

Level: WIAA Division-3 regional quarterfinal

At stake: The winner will play at top-seeded Shoreland Lutheran in a regional semifinal 7 p.m. Thursday.

Player to watch: St. Joseph’s Katie Burke is closing out her second varsity season on a high note. After averaging 6.1 points in her first 14 games, the 6-foot-2 sophomore is averaging 10.9 points in her last seven games, including 14.3 points in her last three.

FYI: St. Joseph is seeded fifth in its seven-team regional, while Racine Prairie is seeded fourth. ... In the Midwest Classic Conference South, Prairie finished 6-10 and St. Joseph went 5-11. ... The teams split two MCC meetings during the regular season. Prairie won 39-35 on Dec. 15 in Kenosha, and St. Joseph won 29-22 on Feb. 2 in Racine. St. Joseph’s Rae Moe averaged 12.5 points in the two games. ... Senior guard Katie Lieberman leads the balanced Hawks in scoring (10.0 ppg).

Christian Life (10-12) vs. Martin Luther (9-13)

When: 7 tonight

Where: Greendale Martin Luther (5201 S. 76th St.)

Level: WIAA Division-3 regional quarterfinal

At stake: The winner will play the Racine St. Catherine’s-Heritage Christian winner in a regional semifinal 7 p.m. Thursday at a site to be determined.

Players to watch: Both teams boast a high-scoring sophomore forward. Emilie Wiltzius averages 16.4 points for Martin Luther, while Brie Tennyson averages 14.0 points for Christian Life.

FYI: Christian Life is seeded sixth in its seven-team regional, while Martin Luther is seeded third. ... Christian Life finished 7-9 in the MCC North and Martin Luther finished 7-9 in the MCC South. ... The Eagles have won 10 games after winning a combined nine games in the previous two seasons. ... Since opening the season 0-7, Martin Luther has gone 9-6. ... Kathryn Adams is also averaging in double figures for the Eagles (10.0 ppg).
