Last week, Carthage was one of 13 schools to have a basketball team in both the men’s and women’s NCAA Division III Tournament.

The others were Christopher Newport (Va.), Hope (Mich.), Illinois Wesleyan, Maryville (Mo.), Medaille (N.Y.), St. Norbert, St. Thomas (Minn.), Washington (Mo.), William Paterson (N.J.), Williams (Mass.), UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater.

Of those 13 schools, only Carthage, Illinois Wesleyan, Williams and UW-Stevens Point have both teams still dancing.

Both Carthage teams will be playing the early game in their respective sectional semifinals on Friday.

The Red Men will take on CCIW foe Illinois Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m. at UW-Stevens Point’s Quandt Fieldhouse. The host Pointers will play the University of Texas-Dallas in the other semifinal at 8 p.m.

The Reds will play defending national champion George Fox (Ore.) University at 5 p.m. at the Washington University Field House in St. Louis. The host Bears will play Mount Union in the other semifinal at 7 p.m.

Both sectional championships are slated for 7 p.m. Saturday.

Division II

The UW-Parkside women’s basketball team will play Findlay (Ohio) at 7:30 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament on Friday at Michigan Tech in Houghton, Mich.

It will be the fourth and final quarterfinal matchup of the day in The Midwest Regional.

The winner between No. 4 seed UWP and No. 5 seed Findlay will play the winner between No. 1 seed Michigan Tech and No. 8 seed Northern Kentucky 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The regional final is 6 p.m. Monday.
