A couple of Carswells are seeded in the singles draw of the WIAA Division-1 State Individual Tennis Tournament.

The tourney starts 2 p.m. today and runs through Saturday at Nielsen Stadium in Madison.

Tremper freshman John Carswell (26-1) is seeded sixth, while Tremper senior David Carswell (25-4) is among the players seeded 9-16.

SEC champ

John Carswell has won Southeast Conference and sectional titles in a fabulous first varsity season.

After a first-round bye, he will play the winner between Middleton junior Ian Markson (16-14) and Madison East sophomore Jake Rodgers (19-5) in the second round 10 a.m. Friday.

Postseason veteran David Carswell will be making his fourth appearance in the State Individual Tournament. He advanced to the third round for the second year in a row last season.

David Carswell will play Arrowhead junior Matt Miller (15-9) in the opening round 2 p.m. today. The winner will meet the winner between Mukwonago freshman Jake Diesler (17-2) and Manitowoc senior Zach Kadow (12-10) in the second round 8:30 a.m. Friday. A potential matchup with top-seeded Alex Jesse of Homestead (27-1) looms in the third round.

Savaglio in action

Bradford sophomore Michael Savaglio (17-3) will make his State Tournament debut by taking on Stevens Point sophomore Chalee Sriprasert (16-8) in a first-round matchup 4:30 p.m. today.

The winner will face the winner between Wausau East senior German Larrain (23-2) and Plymouth senior Andrea Lofino (21-2) in the second round 10 a.m. Friday. Lofino is among the players seeded 9-16.

Double duty

Along with Tremper’s Connor Hildebrandt and Jake Humphreys, who are seeded No. 1 (see story, page C1), Kenosha County will be represented by two other entrants in the doubles bracket.

Tremper’s Jake Riley and Adam Gagliardi (20-9) will take on Brookfield Central’s Kenny Reichert and Kevin Schmidt (11-11) in the first round 5 p.m. today.

The winner will face the winner between Nicolet’s Quinn Ellsworth and Jacob Levey (24-1) and Franklin’s Brad Heale and CJ Malek (18-8) in the second round 10:30 a.m. Friday. Heale and Malek are among the doubles teams seeded 9-16.

Bradford seniors Florian Dorgerloh and Anthony Greco (12-5) will play Wisconsin Rapids seniors Alex Gilmaster and Chris Steiner (9-9) in a first-round matchup 3 p.m. today.

The winner will play the winner between Brett Hamm and Alex Koch of Oshkosh North (7-3) and Brian Klein and Danny Mackett of Brookfield East (13-13). Hamm and Koch are among the doubles teams seeded 9-16.
