Richard Hudson Thiel, Sr.

1928 – 2011

Richard Hudson Thiel Sr., 82, of Kenosha passed away on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011 at Kenosha Estates.

Richard was born on Dec. 21, 1928, in Kohler to Byron and Mildred Thiel. He attended UW-LaCrosse and received his Masters in education from Cardinal Stritch University. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. He served on the Kenosha Literacy Council, was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Kenosha Elks. Richard was an avid reader and he was an expert on the works of Shakespeare. He took great pride in teaching the art of Shakespeare to high school students. He enjoyed fly-fishing, watercolor painting, had an interest in sailing and was known to his family and friends as a humorist.

He was preceded in death by, his parents; and his sister, Barbara Dotson.

Richard is survived by, his daughter, Robin (Mark) Allen of Columbus, Oh.; four sons, Blake (Tracie) Thiel of Toledo, Oh., Richard Jr. (Lynn) Thiel of Kenosha, Matthew (Elaine) Thiel of Akron, Oh., and Andrew (Heather) Thiel of Eau Claire; nine grandchildren, Nick, Elizabeth, Kristy, Kelly, Richard III, Alaina, Dylan, Sawyer and Matthew; four great grandchildren, Preston, Anthony, Jake and Kylie; and longtime friend, Steve Reedy of TX.

Funeral services for Richard will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at the Hansen-Lendman Funeral Home. Interment will be held on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at 12 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield, WI. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Kenosha Public Library System would be greatly appreciated.
